Warriors: Stars of Gray: Chapter 5

Graystripe was proud, they had won their second battle with BloodClan! He let out another screech of victory, to show his triumph. Suddenly, he heard Squirrelflight yowl with sadness. Everyone looked at her, she was standing over Brambleclaw’s dead body. She let out another earsplitting scream, and Firestar came over to her.

“Shh,” he soothed her, “Everything’s okay.”

“No Daddy,” Squirrelflight mewed, her voice cracked with misery, “It’s not. Brambleclaw’s gone,” she gulped, “forever.” Squirrelflight buried her muzzle in Firestar’s flank.

Graystripe remembered that Brambleclaw was Squirrelflight’s mate, and immediately felt a pang of sadness.

“Brambleclaw is in StarClan now,” Firestar said, “With Feathertail.”

Squirrelflight murmured something that Graystripe didn’t catch, then licked Brambleclaw’s ear for the last time. Other cats, including Graystripe, crowded around to mourn for Brambleclaw.

“Stupid furball,” Squirrelflight mewed, “Always bragging about being the ThunderClan deputy.” She jerked up and looked at the sky, “Oh, StarClan why did you have to take him?!”

Graystripe  could have sworn that he saw a pair of ice-blue eyes, glinting with triumph.

“REVENGE!!!!!!!!”  Graystripe heard it so loud that it echoed off the rocks. but all the cats there had just been mourning for Brambleclaw the whole time!

“A new deputy must be appointed,” Firestar meowed from the Highledge, getting all the cats’ attention, “But first, let us give thanks to StarClan for the life of Brambleclaw. Tonight he sits with his fellow warriors among the stars.”

All the cats looked up at the sky. It was still light out, so looking at the sky was a bit dumb.

“And now I shall name the new ThunderClan deputy,” Firestar continued, “I say these words before the spirit of Brambleclaw, so let him hear and approve my choice.”

Ipoxitye didn’t know what to put here, so she decided to write this.

“Graystripe,” Firestar meowed, “You have served the Clan well in the past, you will be re-appointed deputy of ThunderClan.”

Graystripe didn’t know what to say. He knew he would be re-appointed deputy, yet he was surprised by it.

“Th-thank you.” Graystripe stuttered, then regained his confidence, “I personally think you were a mousebrain for not re-appointing me in the past.”

The rest of the Clan mrrowed with laughter.

Firestar flicked his tail in annoyance, then continued. “Brambleclaw was a fine warrior, and he will be mourned.” He was going to say more, but Ipoxitye was tired, and decided to end the chapter.
